Back at the end of September it was announced that Hideki Kamiya would be leaving PlatinumGames, a games studio he helped found. Now we are getting a bit more information from the man himself, via his new YouTube channel.
The first on his channel (shown below) has Kamiya talk about his departure, although he is pretty cagey on the subject. It also appears that he seems to have a non-compete clause in his contract, as he is unable to work in the games industry for a year.
As a result, he’s started up his own YouTube channel and is putting himself out there. He’s also been watching a lot of streaming services and making homemade curry.
The latter is somewhat hilarious as he hasn’t cooked in a while and got the amounts wrong, resulting in an overflow of curry. It turned out alright in the end though, and in case you’re wondering this style of “Dinner Curry” is very popular here in Japan.
Kamiya also wants to make it clear that he’s not retiring from gaming, as multiple people on Twitter have apparently wished him well in his retirement. Wherever Kamiya ends up next is not clear, not least due to his inability to get another games related job for a year, but he did joke about working for Hamster.
Finishing off the video he drives off in what looks like a very shiny red Lamborghini Countach, which cements his 80s fanboy tendencies rather magnificently.
Naturally, I wish Kamiya all the best with his next endeavors and look forward to further antics via his new YouTube channel.
