Today’s Wordle #847 Hints, Clues And Answer For Saturday, October 14th

It’s the weekend at last, and that unluckiest day—Friday the 13th—is behind us.

To be fair, it’s Fall Break around these parts, which means we’ve had a very long weekend. We’ve treated it as a stay-cation, alternating between housework and lazy chill time. I’m hoping to get at least two hikes in this weekend as well, as the leaves are changing rapidly.

It’s soup and sweater weather, though midday is still gorgeous and relatively warm with just enough breeze. Could it please just stay this way until spring? I’m not sure I’m mentally ready for another hard winter!

Alright, enough about the weather. Let’s do this Wordle!

How To Solve Today’s Word

The Hint: Yesterday’s Wordle is a word in a movie starring British actor Henry Cavill in which he plays today’s Wordle.

The Clue: This word begins with a vowel.

Wordle Bot Analysis

After each Wordle I solve I head over to the Wordle Bot homepage to see how my guessing game was.

Can you solve today’s phrase?

Plane struck me as a good opening guess but I wasn’t expecting to get two yellow boxes and one green box. According to Wordle Bot, only five words remained after this guess. I actually could only come up with four: agent, amend, arena and hyena. The one I was missing was henna.

In any case, maybe it’s the gladiator fan in me, but I went with arena for my second guess. Sadly, this was incorrect and I was stuck with a coin toss: agent or amend. I went with the fun one—secret AGENT man, secret AGENT man—and it was correct! Huzzah!

Today’s Score

I get 1 point for guessing in three and 1 point for beating Wordle Bot who took four today. That’s 2 points! Huzzah again!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word “agent” has its origins in Latin. It is derived from the Latin word “agens,” which is the present participle of the verb “agere,” meaning “to do” or “to act.” “Agens” in Latin referred to someone or something that performs an action or carries out a task. Over time, this Latin term evolved into the English word “agent,” which retains a similar meaning, representing a person or entity that acts on behalf of another or is responsible for performing specific tasks or actions.

Play Competitive Wordle Against Me!

I’ve been playing a cutthroat game of PvP Wordle against my nemesis Wordle But. Now you should play against me! I can be your nemesis! (And your helpful Wordle guide, of course). You can also play against the Bot if you have a New York Times subscription.

Here are the rules:

  • 1 point for getting the Wordle in 3 guesses.
  • 2 points for getting it in 2 guesses.
  • 3 points for getting it in 1 guess.
  • 1 point for beating me
  • 0 points for getting it in 4 guesses.
  • -1 point for getting it in 5 guesses.
  • -2 points for getting it in 6 guesses.
  • -3 points for losing.
  • -1 point for losing to me

You can either keep a running tally of your score if that’s your jam or just play day-to-day if you prefer.
