Today’s ‘Connections’ Hints And Answers For Sunday, October 22

Looking for Saturday’s Connections hints and answers? You can find them here:

Hey there, everyone! I hope you’re making the most of the weekend. I’m glad to finally have the chance to play Spider-Man 2 in between taking care of some things around my place. It’s been a nice, quiet weekend for me so far. Anyway, today’s Connections hints and answers are coming right up.

How To Play Connections

In Connections, you’re presented with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange them into four groups of four by figuring out the links between them. The groups could be things like horror movie franchises, a type of verb or rappers.

There’s only one solution for each puzzle, and you’ll need to be careful when it comes to words that might fit into more than one category. You can shuffle the words to perhaps help you see links between them.

Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to figure out, blue and green fall in the middle, and the purple group is typically the hardest one to deduce.

Select four words you think go together and press Submit. If you make a guess and you’re incorrect, you’ll lose a life. If you’re close to having a correct group, you might see a message telling you that you’re one word away from getting it right, but you’ll still need to figure out which one to swap.

If you make four mistakes, it’s game over. Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen with the help of some hints, and, if you’re really struggling, today’s Connections answers.

Connections Hints For October 22

Scroll slowly! Just after the hints for each of today’s Connections groups, I’ll reveal what the groups are without immediately telling you which words go into them.

Today’s 16 words are:

  • JAM
  • LOUNGE
  • SCONE
  • PICKLE
  • LOAF
  • TRIFLE
  • BANGER
  • HANG
  • MASH
  • SCRAPE
  • CHILL
  • GROOVE
  • BIND
  • BOP
  • ROAST
  • SPOT

And the clues for today’s groups are:

  1. Yellow group — take it easy
  2. Green group — enjoyable track
  3. Blue group — Churchill’s meals, perhaps
  4. Purple group — a bit of bother

Connections Groups For October 22

Need some extra help?

Be warned: we’re starting to get into spoiler territory.

Today’s groups are…

  • Yellow group — relax
  • Green group — catchy song
  • Blue group — British cuisine
  • Purple group — sticky situation

Connections Answers For October 22

Spoiler alert! Don’t scroll any further down the page until you’re ready to find out today’s Connections answers.

This is your final warning!

Today’s connections are…

  • Yellow group — relax (CHILL, HANG, LOAF, LOUNGE)
  • Green group — catchy song (BANGER, BOP, GROOVE, JAM)
  • Blue group — British cuisine (MASH, ROAST, SCONE, TRIFLE)
  • Purple group — sticky situation (BIND, PICKLE, SCRAPE, SPOT)

After losing an eight-day streak yesterday, I’m back to my winning ways — but only just.

I thought I had the purple words at first, but I guessed incorrectly three times while having JAM in there. I finally realized my error and switched to the green words. That then made the purple words easier to group together.

After a few moments of thought, the yellow words then came together in my mind. LOAF was a potential red herring, as I didn’t quite get the link between the blue words. I was looking at MASH and ROAST more as verbs, even though I often have mashed potatoes and occasionally make a Sunday roast. In any case, I wrapped things up with the blue words with just one life remaining.

That’s all there is to it for today’s Connections clues and answers. Be sure to check my blog for hints and the solution for Monday’s game if you need them.

P.S. Saturday’s game proved to be somewhat contentious. A few readers concurred with my confusion about SPAM being labeled as an acronym when it is not one. I’m interested to find out if and how The New York Times will respond to that controversy.
