TCL Launches Two New Ultra-Affordable 4K UK TV Ranges

Having pretty much rewritten the bang for your buck rulebook in the UK this year with its incredible value mini LED C845K/C841K range, TCL is now out to take the fight to the cheaper end of the TV market too with two new wallet-friendly 4K HDR series.

The most affordable of these new models are the TCL P638K series. These 4K sets will support HDR10 HDR, 60Hz frame rates and some of TCL’s Game Master features, including Auto Low Latency Mode switching when a game rather than video source is detected.

Smart apps on the P638K series will be provided by Android TV, complete with Google Assistant voice recognition/control and built-in Freeview Play support, while the series’ design works hard to disguise its value focus by sporting a ‘bezeless’ chassis. This should also help you focus on the pictures the P638Ks are showing rather than the technology that’s making them.

The P638K range will be available from Argos online in 43, 50, 55, 65 and 75-inch screen sizes priced at just £269, £319, £349, £439 and £749 respectively. The latter price proves that king-sized TVs really are finally starting to get properly affordable now.

Delivering a pretty big step up in features and screen technology for surprisingly little extra cost is TCL’s new C645K range. TCL states that the C645Ks are brighter than the P638Ks, hitting brightness peaks as high as 450 nits (which is pretty impressive for such a value-oriented range). The C645K’s also improve on the P638Ks by using a Quantum Dot colour system that should, in conjunction with the extra brightness, deliver a richer, wider colour performance that’s able to get more value out of HDR sources and should help to make HDR more watchable in bright room settings.

The C645K TVs also bolster their HDR credentials by adding support for the Dolby Vision and HDR10+ ‘active’ HDR formats to the basic HDR10 format available with the P638Ks. These active formats are available with a wide range of content sources now, including streaming services, video games and 4K Blu-rays, and both help compatible TVs to deliver more accurate and dynamic HDR pictures by providing extra scene by scene picture information you don’t get with HDR10.

The TCL C645K have a bit more going on for gamers, too, including support for the AMD FreeSync variable refresh rate system, and a mysterious-sounding Dual Line Gate technology that TCL claims is capable of auto-adjusting game content to improve frame rates and reduce latency.

As with the P638Ks, the C645K range carries Android TV smarts with Freeview Play, supported by the Google Assistant voice control system.

The C645K series is available now in 43, 50, 55, 65 and 75-inch screen sizes, again from Argos online, priced at £329, £359, £429, £579 and £949.
