Vishnu Saran, Founder Of Invigilo Technologies

Vishnu Saran, 29, is the Founder of Invigilo Technologies, a Singapore-based company that uses AI to improve workplace safety in high-risk environments. Leveraging on-site closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, the company’s AI-driven video analytics software works by scanning the environment for safety lapses and if identified, transmits instantaneous, real-time alerts for staff to respond to.

Common high-risk safety lapses, according to Saran, include workers failing to maintain a safe distance from machinery, working at heights without appropriate barricades, and failing to secure their harnesses to lifelines. “By installing this technology, the number of safety lapses at workplaces can decrease by an average of 30% to 40% each month,” he says. The company has already established collaborative partnerships with government bodies in Singapore such as the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and the Housing Development Board (HDB).

The use of worksite safety-enhancing technology is a practice that LTA and HDB mandate across their projects and worksites, although it is not a universal requirement for all worksites in Singapore. Saran is nevertheless encouraged to see private sector firms starting to follow the precedent set by the big boys and proactively implementing such technologies within their operations.

Over the next five to 10 years, the young entrepreneur plans to broaden his team and diversify the company’s product offerings as it expands into North America and the Middle East. Saran is especially interested in exploring the ways Invigilo Technologies can improve occupational safety and health principles in the logistics and maritime industries.

As a Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia 2023 honoree, Saran now finds himself cast as a role model for many up-and-coming entrepreneurs. For them, he has this to say: “Get on the ground, talk to people and build a product by listening to your customers.”

While being interviewed for this Reimagining Innovation series sponsored by OPPO, the entrepreneur had the opportunity to test the smart device innovator’s newest offering—the foldable OPPO Find N3 smartphone. The phone exemplifies OPPO’s commitment to creating exceptional products and features a slew of new innovations including a redesigned hinge system, a professional-grade camera system and a series of efficiency-boosting features.

“The foldable design and the near-creaseless display screen makes it pretty cool when I go around doing my demos,” says Saran. “I can imagine myself using this phone to show potential customers the types of detections we perform.”

Saran is particularly impressed with the extraordinary photo quality—comparing the vibrant colors to those typically seen in a DSLR. He reveals that when conducting demos for clients, he often grapples with the challenge of effectively presenting the features and benefits of his AI-based technology visually—an area where the Find N3 and its large screen towers above all.

For a technopreneur of a startup centered around video analytics, the Find N3’s camera system makes the perfect complement. For one, the device features not one but three professional-grade flagship cameras—a 48MP wide camera, a 64MP telephoto camera and a 48MP ultra-wide camera. With this arsenal of cameras, users are assured the highest quality photos and videos anytime and anywhere. With the Hasselblad Portrait Mode activated, the Find N3 will deliver what is arguably the best portrait photography experience and quality of any smartphone.

The split-screen capability of the Find N3 was the primary standout for Saran. “That is the most attractive feature of this phone,” he says. “I can simultaneously view and switch between three large screens. This phone is going to add a lot of value to me as an entrepreneur because now I can do multiple things at the same time.”

The Find N3’s three-app, split-screen view is optimized for multi-tasking, and along with OPPO’s Boundless View technology, lets users enjoy the field of view as large as that of a 15-inch screen in the palm of their hands.

With the Find N3, OPPO demonstrates once again that you can have it all. A device with class-leading power delivering tablet-sized functionality and unparalleled photo quality—packaged in an astonishingly slim, stunning design that will, quite simply, take your breath away.
