Looking for Monday’s Wordle hints, clues and answer? You can find them here:

St. Patty’s Day has come and gone. I hope everyone had a fun time celebrating (but not too much fun!) I made a Shepherd’s Pie and we watched L.A. Confidential which isn’t exactly a St. Patty’s Day movie, but it’s close enough! Also one of the greatest cop dramas ever made.

In any case, we have yet another Wordle to solve. Let’s knock it down!

How To Solve Today’s Wordle

The Hint: An important item in a cowboy’s kit

The Clue: This Wordle has a double letter

The Answer:

Wordle Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.

Ouch. Today was not my day for Wordle! I was going to guess SNIPE as my opener but typed SOU on accident and then just thought, hey why not? SOUPY was not good. 870 words remained. CRANE slashed that down to 63. REFIT brought me up to four yellow boxes but I still had 7 possible solutions remaining somehow. I wanted very badly for the Wordle to be TIGER so I went with that instead of the more sensible TIMER (looks like Wordle Bot wanted the same thing) and snagged the Wordle in five.

Competitive Wordle Score

I get -1 for guessing in five and -1 for losing to the Bot. The Bot gets +1 for beating me and 0 for guessing in four. This narrows the gap a bit in our running total, but I’m still well ahead in this contest of man vs machine!

My March Running Total: 16 points.

Wordle Bot’s Running Total: 5 points.

How To Play Competitive Wordle

  • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
  • Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
  • You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word “timer” comes from the root word “time”, which traces back to Old English “tīma”, meaning a period or season. The suffix “-er” is a common English agent noun suffix, used to indicate something or someone that performs a function. So, “timer” literally means “something that measures or controls time”. It first appeared in the early 18th century, originally referring to a person who keeps track of time, and later evolved to describe mechanical or electronic devices that perform this function.
