Today’s ‘Wordle’ #1382 Hints, Clues And Answer For Tuesday, April 1st

Looking for Monday’s Wordle hints, clues and answer? You can find them here:

It was April Fool’s Day, I believe two years ago now, that I got my first Wordle-in-one. I actually guessed the world APRIL to start, but that came back as an unacceptable guess. I thought, well, what other months have five letters? Wouldn’t it be kind of funny if they chose MARCH for April Fool’s Day? Sure enough, the Wordle was MARCH. I chock that one up to cleverness rather than luck.

In any case, it’s April 1st, which means you really can’t believe anything you read on the internet. In a world filled with so many ridiculous, crazy news stories, it’s almost overkill to have a day dedicated to pranks and false headlines. Let’s just solve this Wordle instead.

How To Solve Today’s Wordle

The Clue: This Wordle has a double letter.

The Answer:

Wordle Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.

Yikes. This did not go very well. I thought SPINE would be a good opening guess but it left me with 476 remaining possible solutions. BLOAT cut back the bloat a bit, but I still had 22 left. I slashed that down to 3 with CRUEL but then I guessed WHEEL. Bad luck there. JEWEL was the Wordle, and it took me five tries.

Competitive Wordle Score

I get -1 point for guessing in five and -1 for losing to the Bot. The Bot gets 0 points for guessing in four and +1 for beating me. We begin our April tally at:

Erik: -2 points

Wordle Bot: 1 point

I won in March but I’m not off to a great start in April. C’est la vie!

How To Play Competitive Wordle

  • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
  • Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
  • You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word “jewel” comes from the Old French word “jouel” (12th century), meaning ornament or precious stone. That, in turn, likely comes from Medieval Latin “jocale”, meaning plaything or toy, which derives from the Latin “jocus”, meaning joke or jest.
