Today’s Wordle #721 Hints, Clues And Answer For Saturday, June 10th

They say time flies when you’re having fun. I just think it flies. How is it possible that we’re already a third of the way through June? And at the end of the month, we’ll be halfway through 2023!? I can’t wrap my brain around that at all.

It’s been a while since we did a This Day In History style post, but here are ten important things that happened on June 10th throughout history:

  1. 323 BC: Alexander the Great, the Macedonian king and military genius, died in Babylon at the age of 32.
  2. 1190: The Third Crusade began as Holy Roman Emperor Frederick I Barbarossa drowned while crossing the Saleph River in Asia Minor.
  3. 1692: The first victim of the Salem witch trials, Bridget Bishop, was hanged in Massachusetts.
  4. 1793: The Jardin des Plantes, one of the first public zoos, opened in Paris, France.
  5. 1829: The first Boat Race between the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge took place on the Thames River in England.
  6. 1924: Fascist leader Enrico de Nicola became the youngest Prime Minister in the history of Italy.
  7. 1940: Italy declared war on France and the United Kingdom during World War II.
  8. 1967: The Six-Day War between Israel and neighboring Arab states ended with a ceasefire.
  9. 2003: The Spirit rover, part of NASA’s Mars Exploration Rover mission, was launched to explore the surface of Mars.
  10. 2016: The killing of British Labour Party Member of Parliament Jo Cox shocked the nation in the United Kingdom.

Lots of death and war, basically . . . .

Okay, let’s do this Wordle!

How To Solve Today’s Wordle

The Hint: Once more.

The Clue: This word has a double letter.

The Answer:

.

.

.

Again!

Wordle Bot Analysis

Curiously, today’s Wordle has the same double-letter as yesterday’s with two A’s, though yesterday’s word was harder. Still, both Wordles took me four guesses.

Today, I opened with swipe maybe because I was thinking about how much dating sucks whether you’re out trying to meet people or swiping on Tinder. Either way, it wasn’t a great opening guess and I had 204 remaining possible solutions left going into my second corny guess. That was much better, slashing that number down to just 17.

Still, 17 is a lot! I guessed—rightly—that the word would end with AIN given the yellow boxes I had collected so far and the vowels I’d ruled out. Plain confirmed this guess and left me with just one remaining possible word: again, for the win!

Today’s Score: Well this is deja vu all over again. Just like yesterday, I get zero points for guessing in four and -1 point for losing to Wordle Bot who got it in just three for a total of -1 points.

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word “again” originated from the Old English word “onġēan,” which was derived from the Germanic root *gagn-. In Old English, “onġēan” had various meanings, including “toward, against, opposite” and “in return.” Over time, the meaning evolved to indicate repetition or a return to a previous state or action.

The Old English word “onġēan” can be further broken down into two parts: “on,” meaning “in, on,” and “ġēan,” which carries the sense of “against, toward.” The “ġēan” element is related to the Gothic word “gaggeis,” meaning “against,” and the Old Norse word “gegn,” meaning “straight, direct.”

The word “again” has retained its core meaning of “once more” or “in a repeated manner” throughout its history. It is commonly used to express the idea of returning to a previous action, state, or position.

Play Competitive Wordle Against Me!

I’ve been playing a cutthroat game of PvP Wordle against my nemesis Wordle But. Now you should play against me! I can be your nemesis! (And your helpful Wordle guide, of course). You can also play against the Bot if you have a New York Times subscription.

  • Here are the rules:1 point for getting the Wordle in 3 guesses.
  • 2 points for getting it in 2 guesses.
  • 3 points for getting it in 1 guess.
  • 1 point for beating Erik
  • 0 points for getting it in 4 guesses.
  • -1 point for getting it in 5 guesses.
  • -2 points for getting it in 6 guesses.
  • -3 points for losing.
  • -1 point for losing to Erik

You can either keep a running tally of your score if that’s your jam or just play day-to-day if you prefer.

I’d love it if you gave me a follow on Twitter or Facebook dearest Wordlers. Have a lovely day!

As always, I’d love it if you’d follow me here on this blog and subscribe to my YouTube channel and my Substack so you can stay up-to-date on all my TV, movie and video game reviews and coverage. Thanks!
