Apple Leak Reveals Ambitious MacBook Pro Upgrade

Apple may have introduced the new M3 Apple Silicon with a suite of MacBook Pro laptops, with many expecting a MacBook Air to launch in the first half of 2024. But it might be worth waiting a little longer for a revolutionary MacBook.

New details from noted Apple tipster @Tech_Reve point to Apple introducing a touchscreen to the MacBook. It’s been a long time coming—it’s a popular and accepted feature on high-end Windows laptops, yet Tim Cook and his team have been firmly against adding one to the macOS laptops.

Reports have been building around test units with such a technology for some time. A new style of construction for the touchscreen is being discussed. In the classic Apple way, it is expected to be thinner than existing screens thanks to the use of Samsung Display’s Y-OCTA and LG’s TOE hardware. These should integrate the display and the touch layer rather than having two separate parts sandwiched together.

With Apple bringing macOS and iPadOS closer together, developers can write applications that will work on both systems, albeit with some limitations. As the compatibility between the code increases, hardware limitations come to the fore. In the case of the iPad, there is no physical keyboard or touchpad built into the tables, although these can be purchased separately. As for the MacBook, the touchpad needs to be utilised as a crude stand-in for touching the screen.

That’s the one problem specific to Apple that a touchscreen can address… making the MacBook more like an iPad.

All we need to do now is wait until 2026 to see if Apple will ship the long-awaited upgrade.

Now read how Apple has hidden the new MacBook Air in the latest MacBook Pro design…
