‘Black Myth Wukong’ Is Giving ‘Elden Ring’ A Run For Its Money In Epic Final Trailer

Black Myth Wukong is one of those games you hear about every now and again and think “Oh yeah, that game looks cool, I wonder when it’s finally going to come out?” Years pass, every now and then a trailer or some gameplay footage drops. But it feels distant, like a wave cresting out to sea.

When you realize that the game is actually coming out in less than two weeks, it’s a bit of a shock. Black Myth Wukong releases on PC and PS5 on August 20th, which is just around the corner.

Chinese developer GAMESCIENCE has put out a final trailer to drum up some hype for the kung-fu action-RPG Souls-like, and it’s truly one of the most impressive video game trailers I’ve seen in ages. Check it out:

That’s pretty epic, right? Everything about this trailer works. You see the gorgeous, sprawling world and all its hoary old monsters and dancing monkeys. You get a taste of the combat against both normal enemies and bosses (or at least much larger foes). The music really sets the tone, and then the trailer gets all crazy with monkeys hopping in front of the camera, drums beating, giant magical beasts, blood-drinking cats, slithering snakes . . . I’m in awe. Whether or not the game turns out to be a hit, this was a damn fine trailer.

The game’s story is rooted in Chinese mythology, and based on the ‘Journey to the West’ one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese Literature. You play as the “Destined One’ on a glorious—and perilous—quest to uncover long lost truths.

I’m not sure Black Myth Wukong will boast the same scope or have the gameplay depth of something like Elden Ring, but it certainly looks to scratch the same itch. Fans of Sekiro, Ghost Of Tsushima, Niro, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty and other similar games should find a lot to get excited about here. I can’t wait to play.

You can check out the game and its PC system requirements on its Steam page.

What do you think? Looks pretty great, right? Let me know your thoughts on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook. Also be sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel and follow me here on this blog. Sign up for my newsletter for more reviews and commentary on entertainment and culture.
