This weekend, Destiny 2 is in the midst of its worst slash funniest bug of all time, one where players are able to combine a variety of perks from legendary and exotic weapons in order to create DPS monsters. That’s included auto rifles that shoot shotgun shells, infinite ammo grenade launches and fusion rifles that melt raid bosses in 2-4 shots.
Bungie eventually threw up their hands and told players to have fun with it until it was fixed and no one would be banned, but I was always wary about using it to actually farm rewards, as the game has seen progress-losing patch rollbacks for far less.
However, somehow, Bungie will fix this bug in two stages, neither of which involve rollbacks. Here’s what Bungie help said about the fixes, the first of which should be coming any hour now, which will disable all the insane weapons (and normal crafted weapons, for a time):
So, they are not rolling back the game. This means players who farmed endgame weapons or materials will get to keep them, or hit achievements (well, “achievements”) like Trials Lighthouses or Solo Flawless Dungeons will not have those rolled back, it seems.
There is at least some level of split in the community between those who believe that using these weapons is “cheating” and allowing players to keep coveted achievements devalues their own, and those should be erased.
The other side, one that I am on, is saying “who cares.” I just can’t subscribe to the idea that a Flawless emblem or Solo Dungeon emblem is somehow devalued because some people cheesed their way to them with superweapons. Like, why does it matter? You know you paid the iron price for it. As for it being “devalued” I can promise you that 99.99% of the player population truly does not care about whatever emblem you’re using.
While it seems like farmed gear and such will not be rolled back, I do wonder if there might be another, separate rollback just for achievements like the one group is saying. Again, I don’t think it matters, but Bungie might want to placate that group. If those achievements are indeed erased, again, who cares. But we don’t know if Bungie will bother, or if technically that’s even feasible without a larger rollback.
My philosophy is that if you did not use this goofiest, most fun glitch in Destiny history to have a good time with these insane weapons, and instead complained about it the whole time, you probably should lighten up. This appears to be on its way to a happy ending with no rollbacks, and my only regret is…not farming more.
