Time for Destiny 2’s Festival of the Cost, I mean, Festival of the Lost where…that joke doesn’t really work anymore as the entire game is now monetized more than it used to be.
But I’m not here to complain about that (yet), but rather discuss some new info about the upcoming Destiny 2 event that makes it sound like it’s evolving in some interesting ways, including one new thing to farm, an item that many thought Bungie had forgotten about entirely.
That would be a new memento. Yes, remember those? They are the special little orbs you can put on guns while crafting them that given them a unique shader and eventually a unique descriptor once leveled enough.
This time, there is a new memento dropping specifically for this event, and it will give your gun a “black leather wrap” look as seen above. Not a motion shader, it seems, judging by the look of it. This will drop from an “eerie engram” and there are implications that you might have to complete a triumph before it begins to drop. And remember, these are one-time use, and I don’t think they’ve been updated to stack, so you’ll have to be selective about how you use them. Back to consumable shaders, yay! But yeah, it does look pretty sick.
As for the rest of the event we have:
- Eerie Engrams, special engrams that drop from Haunted Lost Sectors in the event. I think this is our third (or fourth?) year of Haunted Lost Sectors now that the Haunted Forrest was vaulted.
- Eerie Engrams will drop more often from new Legend Haunted Sectors, which will be harder. No word on if they’ll have champions or matchmaking, but my guess is yes and no, respectively.
- The new exclusive weapon for this year’s event is the Heavy Acosmic Grenade Launcher, which will join the Horror Story Auto Rifle, Jurassic Green Pulse Rifle and the Mechabre Sniper Rifle from past years.
- We have already seen the new armor set you can buy for the event, the bug-based set the community voted on a while back
- However, there is also a new system called “Hocus Focusing.” I do appreciate that joke. You can take an Eerie Engram and earned candy to focus for either specific or random Festival weapons, but also for Exotics in all armor slots, exotics pulled from a pool that goes back to Witch Queen exotics, so you can get things like Fallen Sunstar and Gyrfaclon’s Hauberk buuut you do have to own the expansion in question. Sigh. Well, that was almost cool.
Anyway, I genuinely may play this solely for the memento, and if this is a new thing to get people to play holiday events, I think that’s a pretty good idea. I mean technically it’s like, a single use shader, but whatever, it’s something different, at least.
Festival of the Lost starts next week, see you then.
