Dolby Vision And Dolby Atmos Added To More TVs, Gaming Devices, And Car Audio Systems

Dolby Laboratories is having a typically busy CES this year, as a plethora of new brands and devices confirm that they’re going to be embracing Dolby’s immersive Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio formats.

The main highlight of Dolby’s CES 2024 booth reminds us of the growing range of premium car manufacturers that have turned to Dolby Atmos for their in-car audio systems. Just yesterday Mercedes-Benz, Audible and Amazon Music unveiled a collaboration to bring the Dolby Atmos titles and tracks on Audible and Amazon Music to Mercedes-Benz customers. The Amazon Music app with Dolby Atmos is now available in select Mercedes-Benz vehicles, and the Audible app is confirmed as coming later this year to Mercedes cars that feature both the optional Burmester 4D and 3D sound systems and the latest generation of MBUX.

Dolby also announced that it is collaborating with Lotus as the performance car brand makes its CES debut, allowing CES visitors to check out the new Lotus Eletre SUV and its ground-breaking integrated Dolby Atmos sound system.

The Mercedes-Benz and Lotus support means that the number of auto manufacturers that have either already fitted or have committed to supporting Dolby Atmos sound systems has now reached double figures.

Dolby also had big news to share at CES 2024 about its Dolby Atmos FlexConnect system, which enables consumers to add optional extra external wireless speakers to FlexConnect capable TVs to create a full surround sound experience with a minimum of fuss – even in tricky room layouts. Hisense has joined TCL in announcing support for the FlexConnect system, to the extent that the Chinese TV brand was already running a demonstration of its own-branded new FlexTech wireless rear speaker options for its 2024 TVs on its CES stand.

Renowned TV chip maker MediaTek also announced recently that it would support Dolby Atmos FlexConect on its Pentonic smart TV platform, in Pentonic and Filogic chipsets.

Dolby for its part is using the CES to preview an expanded palette of deployment options for Dolby Atmos FlexConnect, such as new setup methods, and to explain how the system can evolve to work with next-generation wireless protocols.

Turning to the world of gaming and computing, two of the gaming world’s most popular PC monitor makers revealed at CES 2024 that they would be introducing support for the Dolby Vision HDR format to their new ranges for the first time. Alienware was out of the traps first, announcing Dolby Vision for its AW3225QF 32 4K QD-OLED Gaming Monitor, and then Asus revealed it was adding it to its ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDM.

Last but not least, Dell announced on January 4 that it would be adding both Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos sound support to its latest XPS 16, XPS 14 and XPS 13 laptops.
