What with Expo 2025 around the corner, Shoji Kawamori covered his work on the event in a new press conference today.
While Kawamori’s involvement was announced a while back, this new press conference covered more about his work for the Expo as well as the other partners involved.
The theme is something that has been a big part of Kawamori’s work over the years, that of protecting and cherishing our natural environment.
Anime such as Earth Maiden Arjuna had this as their major narrative theme, but other anime involving Kawamori such as Macross Frontier and Aquarion also have strong ecological aspects to them.
As such, the partners involved with Kawamori’s Expo 2025 pavilion are those that are interested and involved with maintaining biodiversity, something they all talked about at great length during the press conference.
While gamers will know of Kawamori’s more recent design work on Armored Core VI, he is not your typical mecha designer. Apart from being a director of anime, he is also hired to come up with world settings (as in the case of Cowboy Bebop) and other non-anime related projects.
In short, Kawamori is a very multi-faceted individual and I am glad that he is getting a chance to show that at his pavilion for Expo 2025.
