Hints, Clues, Answers For Wednesday, April 23

In case you missed Tuesday’s NYT Mini, you can find the answers here:

Wondering what flight option saves money at the expense of sleep? Not sure which fashion magazine has a palindromic name? Don’t worry, because I’m here to help you with some extra clues and the answers for today’s NYT Mini crossword.

The NYT Mini is a quick and dirty version of the newspaper’s larger and long-running crossword. Most days, there are between three and five clues in each direction on a five by five grid, but the puzzles are sometimes larger, especially on Saturdays.

Unlike its larger sibling, the NYT Mini crossword is free to play on the New York Times website or NYT Games app. However, you’ll need an NYT Games subscription to access previous puzzles in the archives.

To help you avoid getting stuck and having to reveal missing letters, here are the NYT Mini Crossword hints, clues and answers for Wednesday, April 23

Spoilers lie ahead, so remember to scroll slowly:

NYT Mini Crossword Hints

NYT Mini Across Hints

1 Across: With 7-Across, a 2005 Wes Craven thriller starring Rachel McAdams and Cillian Murphy

4 Across: Procol Harum song “A Whiter Shade of _____”

5 Across: Cook food over fire, normally using a metal frame

6 Across: Provide freedom or relief

7 Across: See 1 Across

NYT Mini Down Hints

1 Down: Lift up

2 Down: Australian model _____ Macpherson

3 Down: Abbreviation for Wilmington’s state

4 Down: Wish strongly for something

5 Down: The eighth letter, as you might write it out

NYT Mini Crossword Clues And Answers

NYT Mini Across Answers

1 Across: With 7-Across, flight option that saves money at the expense of sleep – RED

4 Across: Like pastel shades – PALE

5 Across: Appliance on a patio – GRILL

6 Across: Simplicity – EASE

7 Across: See 1-Across – EYE

NYT Mini Down Answers

1 Down: Underpaid employee’s request – RAISE

2 Down: Fashion magazine with a palindromic name – ELLE

3 Down: Director Guillermo ___ Toro – DEL

4 Down: Thank God, say – PRAY

5 Down: “Will you look at that!” – GEE

It took me 0:33 to complete today’s NYT Mini.

That’s a pretty solid time, but I think I messed up with my strategy here. After I figured out RED EYE (good movie, by the way), I skipped all the way down to 7 Across to fill in the second half, then switched to the Down clues. That was a mistake, since I would have figured out PALE and GRILL. EASE might have given me a little more difficulty.

In any case, I got all of the Down answers except for GEE. It didn’t take long to fill in the blanks after that. Fun that there was a red “I” in the middle of the grid.

See you tomorrow for more NYT Mini fun!
