Master Collection Vol. 1’ Has A Lot More Extra Content Than I Was Expecting

With the news of a shiny remake of Metal Gear Solid 3, we now have a lot more detail on the classic Metal Gear Solid collection from the recent Nintendo Direct and it looks to be very comprehensive indeed.

We all knew that Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 would include the first three Metal Gear Solid games, that of Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.

What we didn’t know was that the collection would also include a lot of extra content. Such as the original Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. As well as the NES versions of Metal Gear and Snake’s Revenge.

However, that’s not all, as we will get both Metal Gear Solid digital graphic novels, a complete soundtrack, a digital screenplay book and a digital master book, with all sorts of lovely artwork.

In short, this is now a thoroughly comprehensive release and an essential purchase for anyone that has enjoyed a Metal Gear game over the past few decades.

One thing that I was surprised at though was the omission of Twin Snakes, which was the GameCube remake of the first Metal Gear Solid. Admittedly, the first-person mode in that game pretty much broke the whole stealth setup in the original PlayStation game, but it would have still been a nice addition.

It’s also not clear whether we will get the updated editions of each of the Metal Gear Solid games, as Integral, Substance and Subsistence had a lot of additional features over the original releases. While the latter two games are getting the HD Edition versions, the first Metal Gear Solid just seems to have the extra VR and Special Missions. I suppose we will just have to wait and see on that.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 is released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, PC and Switch on October 24 and pre-orders are now open.
