New TV Shows And Movies To Stream This Weekend On Netflix, Hulu, Paramount+, Apple TV And More

November’s first weekend is kicking off with an absolute ton of new shows and movies across all the myriad streaming services we must now subscribe to if we have any hope at all of keeping up with everything.

From Westerns to indie sci-fi flicks, this weekend is chock full of stuff to check out, not to mention ongoing shows like Fear The Walking Dead, Upload, The Gilded Age and more.

Let’s dive right in!

New TV Shows And Movies

All The Light We Cannot See (Netflix)

Based on a Pulitzer Prize winning novel, All The Light We Cannot See tells the story of two teenagers near the end of WWII. The first is a blind girl sending radio transmissions for the resistance. The second is a German boy with a knack for tracking radio signals, forced by the Gestapo to help hunt her down. It’s gotten rather bad reviews from critics, but mostly positive from audiences. I love WWII dramas so I’ll definitely at least give this four-part miniseries a chance.

Onimusha (Netflix)

Based on the classic video game series, Onimusha is the first of two anime on the list today. It looks dark and violent and like a pretty terrific adaptation of the Capcom games, which haven’t seen the light of day in nearly two decades.

NYAD (Netflix)

Annette Bening and Jodie Foster star in this sports biopic about Diana Nyad who, at the age of 64, swam over 100 miles from Havana, Cuba to Key West, Florida in 2013 without a shark cage. That’s pretty wild! I can’t imagine swimming that far, let alone being potential shark food the whole time!

Sly (Netflix

I’ve always been impressed by the story of Sylvester Stallone and his stubborn refusal to sell Rocky without also getting the lead role. He was basically destitute but refused to sell unless he could play the lead role. It was probably the smartest decision of his life. Sly tells the rest of the story in a documentary from filmmaker Thom Zimny.

Blue Eye Samurai (Netflix)

The second anime on this list, Blue Eye Samurai is the story of Mizu (Maya Erskine) in her quest to get revenge on her enemies. Co-creator Amber Noizumi calls it “Kill Bill meets Yentl.” This is perhaps the best-reviewed item on our list today with both 100% scores from critics and audiences alike on Rotten Tomatoes.

Quiz Lady (Hulu)

If you’re looking for something a bit lighter, consider Quiz Lady, a road trip comedy starring Awkwafina and Sandra Oh. Awkwafina’s character Anne Yum is obsessed with game shows, and uses that obsession to help her gambling-addicted mother. The supporting cast includes Will Ferrell, Jason Schwartzman, Tony Hale and Paul Reubens (aka Pee-wee Herman) in his last role. The actor passed away earlier this year after a battle with cancer.

Invincible Season 2 (Amazon Prime Video)

Our third animated series on this list and one of the most hotly anticipated out there, Season 2 of Invincible returns to Amazon Prime Video this weekend. It, along with The Boys and Gen V, puts Amazon at the forefront of violent, edgy super-hero parodies. Steve Yeun, J.K Simmons and a bevy of other talented actors make up the cast.

Fingernails (Apple TV)

Fresh off of Season 2 of The Bear, Jeremy Allen White’s new Apple TV film is a near-future sci-fi romance flick about a “fingernail test” that can determine if two people are right for one another. The test, as you can imagine, is fallible and the results unfold in the messy way love and romance often do.

Lawmen: Bass Reeves (Paramount+)

Finally, the newest big Taylor Sheridan project on Paramount+ airs this Sunday. Lawmen: Bass Reeves stars British actor David Oyelowo (who we saw recently in Silo) as the titular lawman. It’s a true(ish) story and apparently Oyelowo was instrumental in getting it made. The supporting cast includes Dennis Quaid and Donald Sutherland. It sounds right up my alley as someone who enjoys Westerns in general and—with a number of quibbles—most of Sheridan’s work (Yellowstone might be my least favorite of his various Western dramas, or at least the most unpleasant; I preferred 1883 and have yet to watch 1923).

Priscilla (In Theaters)

It wasn’t all that long ago that Elvis hit theaters. Now we get the story of Priscilla Presley from director Sofia Coppola and A24. Jacob Elordi and Cailee Spaeny star as Elvis and Priscilla in their often turbulent marriage and relationship.

Beyond this, I’ll be watching another (probably dreadful) episode of Fear The Walking Dead and the two newest episodes of Upload, which I’ve caught up on. I have some thoughts on that show’s third season which I’ll be sharing soon. Loki and Gen V are both wrapping up as well.
