Starfield’s New Animated Story Videos Are A Must-Watch Before Release

Starfield is out in just over a month from now, which is a little hard to believe, given all the delays, that it’s finally here at last. The Xbox exclusive will also be on PC, and as such, it may be time to prep with a little bit of backstory before you jump in on either platform.

Bethesda has released a very cool bit of marketing, a series of three different videos showing off some of the major factions in the game, The Vanguard, The Freestar Collective and Ryujin Industries. You can check out the videos below, along with descriptions.

The Settled Systems – Where Hope is Built, The Freestar Collective

Here we head to the Wild West of space, where Freestar residents live outside the bounds of the more built-up systems. In the video, a woman tries to find a part for her broken ship, and has a flashback to the war that killed her parents.

The Settled Systems – The Hand that Feeds, Ryujin Industries

Here we go to “Pleasure City” in a storyline that looks like it’s straight out of Cyberpunk 2077. A pair of thieves run around stealing things, until they come upon a terrified man with something they want. The woman fights her partner in an effort to spare the man, but turns the situation into a job working for Ryujin Industries, a megacorp who I’m guessing rules the city.

The Settled Systems – Supra Et Ultra, The Vanguard

A man joins the Vanguard and gets paid for dogfighting in space. One of the supposedly “noble” factions to join, even if it feels a bit establishment.

There’s no voicework here, the animation has a low framerate, but these are still really good, and I’m impressed with the endeavor. We’ve already heard a little bit about these factions in things like the showcase, but it’s still a neat way to introduce players to them.

They seem to be popular, all posted a day ago, the Vanguard video has 750K views, the Freestar video has 106K and the Ryujin video has 112K. Kind of unbalanced since the Vanguard came first, but I’d argue the other two are a lot better overall. Check them out for yourself above.
