Riot Games and Korean girl group NewJeans have unveiled GODS, the new anthem for the League of Legends World Championship.
GODS is available now on streaming platforms and YouTube, where you can also watch the music video to go along with it. The song will be used throughout the League of Legends World Championship, and there will no doubt be a live performance at some point during the competition.
The song, on first listen, appears to be an excellent fit for Worlds, giving off some incredible hype moments as well as some slower parts that will no doubt be synced up to some amazing highlight packages throughout the competition.
It doesn’t immediately reach the heights of some previous Worlds anthems, but that could just be down to the fact that we all listened to each of the previous songs hundreds of times. GODS will no doubt grow on us in the same way over the course of the next few weeks.
The League of Legends World Championship is due to kick off in just a few days. The tournament will be held in South Korea across a variety of venues. The opening stages will take place at the iconic LoL Park venue, before heading to the KBS Arena in Seoul. Then the quarter and semi-finals will be played at the Sajik Indoor Gymnasium in Busan before the final takes place at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul.
South Korea is known as one of the biggest fan bases for pro-League of Legends, so most stages of the tournament are expected to sell out and have a massive crowd.
Heading into the tournament the Korean teams are expected to be top contenders due to the nation’s general strength and of course, the home-field advantage. However, after dominating at the Mid Season Invitational, China is also considered one of the top regions at Worlds. European teams will be hoping to reach the final stages of the competition while North American teams will probably be hoping to make it out of the group stage after a tough year.
As always you will be able to watch all of the action for free online, and will no doubt hear GODS played a lot throughout each broadcast. Worlds is always a great show and can produce some incredible moments with the fantastic quality that Riot Games puts into each show. Now with a hype anthem for Worlds 2023 that should increase the spectacle even more, I can’t wait for the tournament to get started.
