Xbox has introduced a brand new trio of limited edition wireless controllers, fittingly dubbed the Breaker series, due to the fact that they’re out here shattering all kinds of important stuff, from frozen water to extreme weather to… human feelings?
There are three semi-translucent Breaker controllers to choose from: Ice Breaker, Storm Breaker and Heart Breaker. Each is priced at $79.99 and they’re all set to release on September 9. You can pre-order them now, and you obviously won’t have to wait long for delivery.
I do really like the look of this lineup, with its chaotic, color-splash motif and jagged see-through bits. Storm Breaker, donning black and white patterning, is probably the least attractive of the bunch (to me, anyway). However, the blueish Ice Breaker is very sleek, but for my money, Heart Breaker is the clear winner here, with its loud bright pink and purple and teal aesthetic. It’s like if a ’90s mall became a controller.
I enjoy using Xbox wireless controllers for general gaming purposes, and props to Microsoft for continually releasing interesting variants, though I actually tend to prefer a basic DualSense for desktop or laptop activities. When supported, Sony’s advanced haptic feedback and adaptive triggers add so much to gameplay, although since using Nintendo’s Switch 2 Pro Controller, there might be a new champion amongst my go-to peripherals.
Still, the Xbox controller is pretty much gaming comfort food at this point, so you can’t really go wrong with any of these Breaker variants. Plus, you can use these on basically anything minus a PS5 or Switch, and that includes Xbox Series X|S, PC via Bluetooth, and even mobile on Android and iOS.
I may just have to pick up a Heart Breaker gamepad. Which version are you interested in?
