The Switch Has Now Sold Over 129 Million Units Worldwide, With A Recent Boost From ‘Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom’

In the latest financial results breakdown from Nintendo, it seems that the Switch is still selling incredibly well and that Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is performing a lot better than Breath of the Wild did.

Firstly, the Switch has amassed 129.53 million sales since its release back in March 2017. This is still behind the lifetime sales of the PlayStation 5, which managed 158.70 million sales.

I had expected the Switch to overtake the PlayStation 2 by this point, but there’s still time for it to take the PlayStation 2’s crown.

As for Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, that has also sold exceedingly well. With a total of 18.51 million sales since its release in May this year.

To give that figure some context, it took Breath of the Wild three years to reach 20 million sales, and Tears of the Kingdom has nearly done that in only a few months.

Currently the Switch sales of Breath of the Wild are around 29 million as of last year, but I fully expect Tears of the Kingdom to blow past that. Not least because Tears of the Kingdom is a far better game than Breath of the Wild.

The main takeaway here for Tears of the Kingdom is that its success has clearly helped boost sales of the already very popular Switch, which is still selling incredibly well since its release in 2017.
