Today’s ‘Wordle’ #1394 Hints, Clues And Answer For Sunday, April 13th

Looking for Saturday’s Wordle hints, clues and answer? You can find them here:

Another lazy Sunday sprawls out before us in all its springtime glory. It’s one week before Easter, but we’ll pass the 1400 mark for Wordle before then. Kind of crazy to think we’ve been playing this game every day for nearly four years—though I, like most people, started several months after the game came out, just when it was going viral and just before it was scooped up by The New York Times.

Be sure to check out my weekend streaming guide also. When you’re done lazing about outside enjoying the lovely weather, and you’ve solved all the day’s puzzles, you’ll want to curl up with a good TV show or movie (or book, if you catch the reading bug—though I haven’t written a book list in awhile).

Let’s solve this Wordle!

How To Solve Today’s Wordle

The Hint: A happy response.

The Clue: This Wordle ends with two consonants.

Okay, spoilers below!

The Answer:

Wordle Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.

SHIRE was a decent opening word, leaving me with only one yellow box but just 82 remaining words to choose from. TOUCH slashed that number down to just one: LAUGH for the win. Bwahahahaha!

Competitive Wordle Score

At last, I get a win. 1 point for guessing in three and another for beating the Bot. The Bot gets 0 points for guessing in four and -1 for losing ot me, which narrows the April gap to:

Erik: 4 points

Wordle Bot: 8 points

How To Play Competitive Wordle

  • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
  • Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
  • You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word “laugh” comes from Old English “hlæhhan” (also spelled hliehhan), meaning “to laugh,” which in turn comes from Proto-Germanic *hlahjan. This likely stems from the Proto-Indo-European root *klak- or *kleg-, meaning “to make a sound” or “cluck/laugh.”

Cognates appear in Old Norse (hlæja), Old High German (hlahhen), and Gothic (hlahjan), all meaning “to laugh.”
