Today’s Wordle #730 Hints, Clues And Answer For Monday, June 19th

Monday is upon us, and with it a very special day for Wordle. The viral word puzzle game launched two years ago today, though only in a very limited fashion. Josh Wardle’s creation didn’t really become a public phenomenon until a few months later, but it all started today two years ago with the word cigar.

Today’s word is a little more interesting and lesser known. I’m curious to see how difficult people find it. I’m also heading off on a vacation, though you can rest assured I’ll be posting my Wordle guides every day as always. There are only a few things certain in life: Death, taxes, and my daily Wordle post! Let’s do it!

How To Solve Today’s Wordle

The Hint: Like the very first Wordle, this is something you put in your mouth.

The Clue: This word has a double letter.

The Answer:

.

Kazoo!

Wordle Bot Analysis

So much for my winning streak! This one took me five guesses, the first Wordle in a very long time to stump me so completely.

My opening guess, spate, was a pretty good pick, just not for today, leaving me with 255 remaining possible solutions. From here, ghoul wasn’t too ghoulish, but I still had 41 words to choose from.

I wanted to rearrange the two vowels I’d come across, and guessed radio just in case there was a third. It wasn’t too bad, leaving me with two green boxes and only five choices. But five is still a lot, and baker wasn’t good enough. I was left with two—wacko and kazoo—and I’m not sure, but perhaps it’s the musician in me, all I could think of was kazoo. Surprisingly—and luckily—I was right!

Today’s Score: A big loss today. -1 for losing to the Bot and -1 for guessing in five for a grand total of -2 points. No huzzah for me! I hope you did better, dearest Wordlers!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word “kazoo” originates from the United States and has its roots in African-American culture. The exact etymology of the term is not entirely clear, but it is believed to have emerged in the late 19th century. The word “kazoo” first appeared in print in 1884, and it is thought to have been derived from a similar-sounding word in an African language.

One theory suggests that the word “kazoo” may have come from the West African term “kazo,” which means “to speak” or “to communicate.” Another theory proposes that it could have originated from the term “mirliton,” which refers to a musical instrument with a similar design to the kazoo.

Regardless of its precise origins, the kazoo became popularized in the United States during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It gained widespread recognition as a simple, inexpensive musical instrument that could mimic various sounds when played, typically through humming or singing into it while the instrument’s membrane vibrates.

Today, the term “kazoo” is universally recognized as the name for this small, handheld instrument, which is often used in various musical contexts and children’s activities.

Play Competitive Wordle Against Me!

I’ve been playing a cutthroat game of PvP Wordle against my nemesis Wordle But. Now you should play against me! I can be your nemesis! (And your helpful Wordle guide, of course). You can also play against the Bot if you have a New York Times subscription.

  • Here are the rules:1 point for getting the Wordle in 3 guesses.
  • 2 points for getting it in 2 guesses.
  • 3 points for getting it in 1 guess.
  • 1 point for beating Erik
  • 0 points for getting it in 4 guesses.
  • -1 point for getting it in 5 guesses.
  • -2 points for getting it in 6 guesses.
  • -3 points for losing.
  • -1 point for losing to Erik

You can either keep a running tally of your score if that’s your jam or just play day-to-day if you prefer.

I’d love it if you gave me a follow on Twitter or Facebook dearest Wordlers. Have a lovely day!

As always, I’d love it if you’d follow me here on this blog and subscribe to my YouTube channel and my Substack so you can stay up-to-date on all my TV, movie and video game reviews and coverage. Thanks!
