Today’s Wordle #799 Hints, Clues And Answer For Sunday, August 27th

Happy Lazy Sunday folks! I’ve decided that every Sunday we’ll take a dive into history before we jump into our Wordle guide. I suppose that’s a bit of laziness on my part. I don’t have to come up with anything clever. I can just recount the famous historical events that took place on this day over the years and centuries and epochs.

On August 27th, here are some of the big historical moments that have helped shape our world—turns out some very, very big things happened on this day, including a ‘Mars Opposition’:

  1. 1859: The first successful oil well in the United States was drilled by Edwin Drake near Titusville, Pennsylvania, marking the beginning of the modern petroleum industry.
  2. 1883: The volcanic island of Krakatoa in Indonesia erupted in a series of violent explosions, leading to one of the most powerful volcanic eruptions in recorded history. The eruption had far-reaching effects on global climate and atmospheric conditions.
  3. 1928: The Kellogg-Briand Pact, also known as the Pact of Paris, was signed by 15 nations, renouncing war as a means of settling international disputes. While it ultimately didn’t prevent World War II, it laid the groundwork for the concept of international peace and disarmament.
  4. 1962: The Mariner 2 spacecraft, launched by NASA, became the first spacecraft to successfully fly by Venus, providing valuable data about the planet’s atmosphere and surface temperature.
  5. 1967: The Beatles’ manager, Brian Epstein, was found dead in his London home. Epstein played a crucial role in the success of the Beatles and their rise to international fame.
  6. 2003: Mars made its closest approach to Earth in nearly 60,000 years, a phenomenon known as the “Mars Opposition.” This event allowed for exceptional viewing of the planet from Earth.
  7. 2003: The human-caused wildfire known as the “Cedar Fire” began in California, eventually becoming one of the largest and most destructive wildfires in the state’s history.
  8. 2007: NASA launched the spacecraft “Phoenix” on a mission to Mars. The spacecraft successfully landed on Mars in May 2008 and conducted studies of the planet’s polar region.
  9. 2012: Apple Inc. became the most valuable publicly traded company in history, with its market capitalization exceeding $620 billion.
  10. 2018: The former president of Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe, died at the age of 95. Mugabe had been a controversial figure, initially celebrated for his role in ending colonial rule but later criticized for his authoritarian rule and economic policies.

Alright, let’s do this Wordle!

Wordle Bot Analysis

After each Wordle I solve I head over to the Wordle Bot homepage to see how my guessing game was.

Can you solve today’s phrase?

All told, a very good guessing game today. Force (as in The Force, as in the new Star Wars series Ahsoka on Disney Plus—read my review—is out) left me with just 21 words. Lungs slashed that number to just 4. My next guess was lucky but sensible for ruling out the other options, and also brought peace to the galaxy. Huzzah!

Today’s Score

I get 1 point for guessing in three and 0 for tying Wordle Bot. 1 for me! Huzzah again!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word “peace” has its origins in Old English and is derived from the Proto-Germanic word “friþuz,” which meant “peace, tranquility.” This word is related to the Old Saxon “frithu,” Old High German “fridu,” and Old Norse “friðr,” all of which have similar meanings.

The concept of peace has deep historical and cultural significance, and it has been a fundamental aspiration for societies throughout history. The word itself reflects the desire for harmony, absence of conflict, and a state of calmness and stability.

Play Competitive Wordle Against Me!

I’ve been playing a cutthroat game of PvP Wordle against my nemesis Wordle But. Now you should play against me! I can be your nemesis! (And your helpful Wordle guide, of course). You can also play against the Bot if you have a New York Times subscription.

  • Here are the rules:
  • 1 point for getting the Wordle in 3 guesses.
  • 2 points for getting it in 2 guesses.
  • 3 points for getting it in 1 guess.
  • 1 point for beating me
  • 0 points for getting it in 4 guesses.
  • -1 point for getting it in 5 guesses.
  • -2 points for getting it in 6 guesses.
  • -3 points for losing.
  • -1 point for losing to me

You can either keep a running tally of your score if that’s your jam or just play day-to-day if you prefer.

I’d love it if you gave me a follow on Twitter or Facebook dearest Wordlers. Have a lovely day!

As always, I’d love it if you’d follow me here on this blog and subscribe to my YouTube channel and my Substack so you can stay up-to-date on all my TV, movie and video game reviews and coverage. Thanks!
