Today’s Wordle #867 Hints, Clues And Answer For Friday, November 3rd

It’s finally Friday, which means that for those of you playing Competitive Wordle against me, the Wordle Bot or whoever else you want to go toe-to-toe with can earn (or lose) double XP! Woohoo!

It also means there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. The weekend approaches. Here in the mountains they’ve been doing controlled burns and the smoke in the air has given me a terrible headache, so I’m going to skip the preamble and get right to the Wordle. Let’s do it!

How To Solve Today’s Word

The Hint: Passion.

The Clue: This word begins with a vowel.

Wordle Bot Analysis

After each Wordle I solve I head over to the Wordle Bot homepage to see how my guessing game was.

Can you solve today’s phrase?

A part of me thinks I should have just guessed all new letters for today’s Wordle, but another part realizes that it might not have helped much. At least brain got me down to just 22 words, though I had no idea at the time.

I did come up with a bunch of second guesses that included ‘A’ in the first position, and was lucky enough to guess artsy. That, however, still left me with 7 guesses which is a crapshoot at best.

Armor did not deliver, sadly, though I knew what the final answer would be as soon as the ‘M’ turned over grey. Ardor for the win!

Today’s Score

So much for 2XP today! I get zero for guessing in four and zero for tying the Bot. 0 x 0 = 0. Oh well!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The etymology of the word ‘ardor’ traces back to Latin. It comes from the Latin word ‘ardēre’ meaning “to burn,” with ‘ardor’ being the noun form meaning “burning, heat; zeal, passion.” Over time, it took on connotations of warmth or heat associated with emotion, intensity, or passion. The word was adopted into Old French as ‘ardour,’ and then into Middle English as ‘ardor.’ The current English usage retains these meanings, often referring to an intense warmth of emotion, fervor, or passion.

Play Competitive Wordle Against Me!

I’ve been playing a cutthroat game of PvP Wordle against my nemesis Wordle But. Now you should play against me! I can be your nemesis! (And your helpful Wordle guide, of course). You can also play against the Bot if you have a New York Times subscription.

Here are the rules:

  • 1 point for getting the Wordle in 3 guesses.
  • 2 points for getting it in 2 guesses.
  • 3 points for getting it in 1 guess.
  • 1 point for beating me
  • 0 points for getting it in 4 guesses.
  • -1 point for getting it in 5 guesses.
  • -2 points for getting it in 6 guesses.
  • -3 points for losing.
  • -1 point for losing to me

You can either keep a running tally of your score if that’s your jam or just play day-to-day if you prefer.
