We are just a couple days away from Tuesday’s big Destiny 2 showcase mainly about its expansion, The Final Shape. It’s going to be a longer feature, as these usually are, showing a lot of footage and revealing a lot of details about The Final Shape as the main point, obviously.
It should also be the debut of trailers and discussion about the Destiny 2 season that literally starts that day, which as of yet, still does not have a name, but Season of the Deep has informed us it will be about resurrecting Savathun so she can give us information about how to traverse The Witness’s Traveler portal that currently shreds anything that goes inside. We…know that this works, given that we’ve already seen inside the portal where a undead Cayde-6 apparently lives, and Ikora, at the very least, makes it through in addition to us.
I have no idea if the fourth season of the year will be featured, as that’s sort of an awkward position to be in, given the new season launch on Tuesday and the fact that The Final Shape is the main focus.
As for post-Final Shape information, I would not expect very much at all, even as Bungie has hinted there may be some information there. The main reason that Bungie does these super early expansion showcases at all is in order to A) boost pre-sales for The Final Shape and B) buy the season that comes out literally that day. A general marketing rule is that there’s not a ton of purpose to advertising something you cannot currently purchase, and you cannot pre-order individual seasons.
You will also not be able to pre-order anything shown after The Final Shape, hence why we will only get hints, most likely, not an actual, full feature. My guess is that perhaps the name of the new “arc” is revealed, as well as perhaps the names of the next individual expansion or two. The Light and Darkness saga is about to end, so what’s the new saga? If those names can be revealed without spoiling the end of The Final Shape, that’s the kind of information I’d expect. And probably nothing more.
Past that, the only hints about post-Final Shape storylines we’ve gotten have been that perhaps the Vex will be more involved, given that they’ve been sidelined for years now without many major storylines devoted to them at all. But again, I doubt that will be discussed in this showcase.
It’s going to be mainly about this next season and The Final Shape. I do hope we get at least something from post-Final Shape, but it’s a fine line to walk as they don’t want to give away their finale here. But yes, Bungie is heavily investing in Destiny for a long while to come, despite their other upcoming projects like Marathon and uh, Gummy Bears. See you Tuesday.
