Devyn Simone’s Guide To Finding Love On Tinder

While summer may be coming to an end, thanks to Tinder, the fun is just beginning — for introverts, that is. The online dating application recently released its dating guide geared toward introverts created alongside Devyn Simone, renowned matchmaker and Tinder’s Resident Relationship Expert. The guide, released last month, features invaluable information curated to help introverts easily navigate the application when it comes to dating while offering statistics on why it may be beneficial for their romantic journeys. Simone, who’s received international acclaim for her matchmaking abilities, decided to partner with Tinder for this guide to help introverted singles find authentic love.

“As a matchmaker and dating expert, I often see how hard dating as an introvert can be. It’s become particularly challenging in recent years as social norms and how we meet and connect have changed. Pair that general shift with the fact that it’s officially ‘uncuffing season’ – the time of the year when people break up for the summer – and what you get is a slew of young singles looking for new ways to get back out there. We know that online dating is the most common way singles meet, but introverts tend to have a harder time putting themselves out there because they can feel overwhelmed or unsure of where to start, whether online or in real life. I wanted to help all the wonderful single introverts find love in a way that is authentic to them.”

Throughout her illustrious career, it’s safe to say that the dating expert has likely seen it all regarding the challenges of online dating. When it comes to challenges that introverts may face in the online dating realm, Simone feels initiating the first contact and small talk are a few that come to mind.

“A big challenge that introverts often face is how to break the ice – how to make the first move or initiate contact. That’s why dating apps like Tinder are so great – Tinder revolutionized the way that people meet. It leveled the playing field for introverts when it comes to creating opportunities to meet new people compared to their more extroverted counterparts. Making small talk tends to be another challenge for introverts. I mean, who really enjoys small talk? Most people aren’t a fan of it, but it can be excruciating for introverts.”

While many have found success in online dating, the process can still be daunting. For those who may be discouraged or overwhelmed by the fast-paced nature of it all, Simone advises them to lean in on authenticity and simply be themselves.

“Go at your own pace because you are uniquely you. It’s your story; you get to write each chapter and page how and when you want. Despite how it may feel some days, you don’t need to compete with anyone else. Just focus on being your best self and always be authentic. Social media gives the impression that we should always be active and lead the most colorful life possible. But that’s not always true; you can and should always be yourself. According to Tinder’s Future of Dating Report 18-24-year-old members say the top green flag for a match is when they feel like they can be comfortable just being themselves.”

When it comes to introverts’ qualities or characteristics that can enhance a romantic connection, Simone feels authenticity and intention are notable.

“Introverts are naturally more authentic than their extrovert counterparts. In a world where everyone is trying to be real, introverts are the perfect personality type to date because they will tell you exactly what they are looking for and the boundaries they’ve set for themselves. Introverts also tend to be great listeners. When they spend time around others, they are generally appreciated for making others feel heard and supported. This is a great quality to have in a relationship – just make sure you have your feelings heard, too.”

For any introverts who are hesitant about online dating, Simone assures them that they are in control of their experience.

“Online dating is a great way to test the waters on your own terms and at your own pace. You can do it from the comfort of your couch until you’re ready to take that next step of a real-life meetup. You’re in control of your experience, and if used correctly, online dating can be an introvert’s secret to becoming a pro at dating both on and offline.”
