How Does Artificial Intelligence Create New Jobs?

Marco Iacoviello, President at OG GROUP FZ LLE.

In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI) has revolutionized many aspects of our lives, including how we work and interact with technology. While some people have feared that AI may replace human workers, there is a growing perspective that AI can actually create new jobs—here’s how AI can contribute to job creation.

Automation And Work Transformation

AI has the potential to automate and simplify numerous repetitive and manual tasks that require less creativity and critical reasoning. This can enable workers to focus on more meaningful and high-value activities. For instance, in the manufacturing and logistics sectors, AI can automate assembly processes, allowing employees to engage in design, quality control and management tasks.

Furthermore, AI can improve the efficiency and accuracy of decision-making activities. AI systems can analyze vast amounts of data and provide intelligent recommendations to enhance productivity and effectiveness in business operations. However, this requires new skills for workers, such as the ability to interpret and utilize the results generated by AI.

New Opportunities In The Field Of AI

While AI may reduce the demand for some jobs, it can also create new employment opportunities in previously unexplored areas. For example, the creation and development of AI systems require machine learning engineers, data scientists and specialized researchers. These types of professionals are increasingly in demand and well-compensated.

Additionally, implementing AI also necessitates support from AI ethics and cybersecurity specialists. With the growing awareness of the ethical implications of AI, there are opportunities for ethics experts to ensure that decisions made by AI systems align with moral and social principles. At the same time, the security risks associated with AI call for cybersecurity specialists to protect systems from external threats.

Rebuilding And Redefining Traditional Sectors

AI can also contribute to the rebuilding and redefinition of traditional sectors, creating new job opportunities. For example, in the healthcare sector, AI can enhance medical diagnosis, expedite drug discovery and support telemedicine. This paves the way for professional profiles like “health data analysts,” who interpret and analyze data collected by AI systems to provide more precise and personalized diagnoses.

Similarly, in the agriculture sector, AI can help optimize crop management, monitor plant health and predict weather conditions to improve agricultural yields. This opens up opportunities for new roles such as “agrotechnologists” who combine agricultural expertise with advanced AI knowledge to maximize efficiency and sustainability in the industry.

Entrepreneurship

AI is also opening up new possibilities for non-traditional jobs and entrepreneurship. With access to AI-based tools and resources, individuals can create their own businesses based on innovative and customized solutions. For instance, AI-powered e-commerce platforms enable small-business owners to reach customers worldwide, offering unique products and services.

Indispensable Human Skills

Despite the rapid advancement of AI, there are certain human skills that remain essential and cannot be replaced by machines. Leadership abilities, creativity, complex problem-solving and empathy are just some of the qualities that continue to be in demand in the workforce. AI can complement and support workers in these areas but cannot fully replace them.

Furthermore, human interaction and customer relations remain crucial aspects in many sectors. Despite process automation, I think human workers will always be needed to provide personalized service, understand customer needs and manage complex situations that require intuition and relational skills.

Conclusion

While the introduction of AI may lead to a transformation of existing jobs, it also offers new employment opportunities. The automation of repetitive tasks, the emergence of new sectors and the demand for AI-related skills are creating a need for new jobs.

It is crucial for workers to adapt to this evolution by acquiring updated skills and harnessing the potential of AI to enhance their work capabilities. AI has the potential to create new jobs—provided there is an effective synergy between artificial intelligence and human skills.
