For many, Logitech is a brand of keyboards and mice that millions use worldwide daily. Today, the Swiss peripheral giant is moving up another gear as it sets its sights on the lucrative and highly competitive gaming and Esports market. A keyboard, mouse and headset can make all the difference between winning and losing a tournament.
Logitech G is the company’s gaming sub-brand and marks a new era of innovation with advanced gaming technologies and elite products. Today sees the introduction of two of the brand’s latest products in the award-winning PRO series line. The Logitech G PRO X TKL LIGHTSPEED Gaming Keyboard and Logitech G PRO X SUPERLIGHT 2 Gaming Mouse are aimed at top-level gamers who insist on the ultimate performance from their gaming gear.
For the past three years, Logitech G has worked alongside hundreds of top professional Esports athletes to create its next generation of PRO Series gear. The new products, combined with the Logitech G PRO X 2 LIGHTSPEED Gaming Headset launched earlier this year, complete the PRO Series line-up of products, aiming to deliver top-flight PC performance across mice, keyboards and headsets.
Brent Barry is the head of Esports and PRO Series portfolio at Logitech G: “The exciting new PRO Series portfolio represents a pure and uncompromised product collection, designed for maximum performance of elite esports professionals and the most competitive gamers playing at the peak of potential.
“These products exemplify our commitment to pushing the limits of performance, speed, and reliability, which is only made possible through our multi-year, collaborative design process with professional esports athletes. Our elite athlete partners help design, develop and test our products, ensuring they deliver the highest level of performance, quality and cutting-edge innovation.”
The Logitech G PRO X SUPERLIGHT 2 Gaming Mouse is designed to offer precision, performance and reliability, three things that matter in professional gaming. If your mouse or keyboard packs up in the middle of a competition, even for a moment, you’ve potentially lost a lot of money. In the same way that other sportspeople rely on racquets, balls and other paraphernalia, elite-level Esports depend on kit that functions quickly, efficiently and reliably.
The new PRO X SUPERLIGHT 2 Gaming Mouse offers state-of-the-art technologies, including LIGHTFORCE Hybrid Switches. New hybrid optical-mechanical switch technology provides the speed and reliability of optical sensors with the crisp response and tactile feel that only pro mechanical switches can provide.
The new mouse is incredibly light and includes the new HERO 2 Sensor, which can track at over 500 inches per second at resolutions up to 32,000 DPI. The mouse has a dual array design that increases its wireless range while maintaining tracking performance, even when lifting or tilting the mouse. Logitech says that feedback from its pro gamers prompted the designers to keep the award-winning shape and geometry of the original PRO Superlight and the weight, which is just 60g.
PRO-grade technology, USB-C connectivity, a 95-hour battery life, POWERPLAY compatibility, larger array size and best-in-class 25kHz maximum frame rate mark this new mouse as a seriously professional device. Zero-additive PTFE mouse feet offer a smoother glide performance, which should help with reaction time.
Debuting alongside the PRO X Superlight 2 Gaming Mouse is the all-new Logitech G PRO X TKL Wireless Gaming Keyboard. This new keyboard has been designed specifically for professional gaming use. It even ships with a protective tournament carrying case. The keyboard’s tenkeyless design includes programmable keys, RGB lighting with LIGHTSYNC, dedicated media controls and a volume roller. The keyboard uses Logitech G’s LIGHTSPEED wireless technology and a dongle is provided with the keyboard. Alternatively, the keyboard can be connected using Bluetooth or a USB cable.
The PRO X TKL has dual-shot PBT keycaps for durability and the design enables the backlights to shine through. The standard layout supports MX keycap compatibility, while additional media keys offer quick access while grinding, a detail that Logitech says many pro players requested. The keyboard is compact, meaning there’s more room for mouse movement on a gamer’s desktop, an essential advantage for competitive players.
The PRO X TKL’s switches are not hot-swappable, but the keyboard can be ordered with a choice of Tactile Switches (GX Brown), Linear Switches (GX Red) or Clicky Switches (GX Blue). For pro gamers, the most minor setting change can make all the difference between winning and losing. DPI, sensitivity, report rate, surface, game settings, and more are interconnected in the new PRO Series of products. With G HUB updates and Onboard Memory Management software (OMM), players get even more control and configuration possibilities.
The Logitech G HUB software now includes a sensitivity UI and OMM for configuring DPI with complete presets, separate X/Y axis controls, and much more. The HERO 2 sensor in the mouse can copy settings from one mouse to another to ensure the exact DPI is transferred from an old mouse. Finally, the Function keys on the keyboard can be reprogrammed as G keys on the PRO X 2 Keyboard for total desktop control.
While performance is everything, Logitech has been getting serious about the environmental impact of its products. The company ships millions of keyboards and mice each year, adding to a considerable environmental impact in plastics, carbon footprint, and packaging. With upgraded and intentional design, the new Pro Series gaming products include certified post-consumer recycled plastic to bring a second life to end-of-use plastic recycled from old consumer electronics.
The paper packaging used on both products comes from FSC-certified forests and other controlled sources. Logitech wants players to know they support responsible management of the world’s forests. The company says that all Logitech G products are certified carbon neutral and use renewable energy during the manufacturing process wherever possible.
Verdict: I’ve now had a chance to take an early pre-launch look at the PRO X SUPERLIGHT 2 gaming mouse and PRO X TKL gaming keyboard. While I am not a professional gamer by any stretch of the imagination, I can say that the mouse and keyboard are impressively finished. To begin with, the mouse is unbelievably light. Initially, I wondered if the mouse had any batteries as it felt too light. The mouse has a rechargeable battery, yet it only weighs in at 60g.
The PRO X TKL gaming keyboard has a positive feel with plenty of travel. The sample I tested was fitted with Brown switches and the feel is very responsive. The dedicated function buttons at the top of the keyboard are well thought out and I like how the backlight level can be adjusted with one button.
Both products come into their own when customized using the Logitech G HUB software, which means they can be as individual as the person using them. It will be interesting to see how the gaming world receives these two new premium products and should indicate how much growth Logitech can expect from its already successful Logitech G sub-brand.
Pricing & Availability: All the new PRO X 2 LIGHTSPEED products are available in pink, black, and white colorways. The PRO X TKL gaming keyboard has an SRP of $199) while the PRO X SUPERLIGHT 2 gaming mouse has an SRP of $159. The third product in the lineup is the PRO X 2 gaming headset which has an SRP of $249. All three products are now available on LogitechG.com and in the US, Canada and select markets worldwide.
