High-end French speaker maker Devialet has announced a second-generation Gemini II true wireless earbuds. The new and improved version of the earbuds now has Adaptive Noise Cancellation and AWR (Active Wind Reduction) for making clearer calls and music outdoors. Devialet claims to have improved the overall sound quality of the earbuds along with ergonomic design and usability.
The Gemini II integrates two advanced technologies. Adaptive Noise Cancellation dynamically adjusts to the wearer’s ear to ensure almost any shaped ear can experience better noise cancellation. The noise reduction also reduces audio artifacts and white noise for an improved listening experience alongside better battery life.
Devialet’s Adaptive Noise Cancellation uses a hybrid dual-microphone structure and digital filters with the company’s proprietary IDC (Internal Delay Compensation) technology. IDC compensates for the internal delay generated by a noise cancellation loop. Devialet says the result is a significant gain in noise cancellation levels, especially at higher frequencies, for better noise cancelation.
The second new technology used in the Devialet Gemini II is AWR (Active Wind Reduction). AWR limits the impact of wind when listening outdoors with ANC turned on. The embedded microphones are cradled in anti-wind material and a cavity shields the microphone membrane from any wind that might blow on its surface.
Devialet’s wind detection algorithms control the Adaptive Noise Cancellation and Transparency intensity depending on the surrounding environment. Finally, AWR enables voice calls to sound clearer in windy conditions. The system uses a bone-conduction sensor with beamforming microphones and anti-wind tech so calls are clearer.
In addition to these proprietary technologies, Devialet Gemini II are fitted with custom 10mm titanium-coated drivers and supports Qualcomm’s basic aptX codec. Devilet hasn’t included support for the better-quality aptX Adaptive codec. Perhaps the company sees its target market mainly as iPhone users. Apple’s iOS only supports SBC and AAC.
To accommodate the proprietary technologies in the Devialet Gemini II earbuds, the designers say they have undertaken comprehensive research into how humans hear and the ear’s structure. The result is a small pair of earbuds the company says can fit in a wide range of ear shapes. Noise isolation ear tips are supplied in four sizes for a better acoustic seal and comfortable fit.
The new earbuds are water resistant to IPX4 standards and have touch control customizations via the Devialet smartphone app. The earbuds can play for five hours on a single charge with an additional 22 hours of backup power in the charging case.
The charging case for the Gemini II has been made sleeker and thinner, so it easily fits into a pocket. The earbuds will launch in Matte Black and Iconic White finishes. In addition, the Gemini II will also be available in an Opéra de Paris edition, completing Devialet’s entire product range in celebration of the company’s five-year partnership with the French institution.
Every product in the Devialet Opéra de Paris collection has moon gold plating inspired by the gilded interiors of the Opéra Garnier in Paris. The Gemini II version features 24-carat gold plating.
Pricing & Availability: The Devialet Gemini II true wireless earbuds are available now and sell for $450 / £399 from Devialet’s website, stores, and retail outlets.
